The NHS Health Check is a free service to assess your risk of developing heart disease, stroke, diabetes and kidney disease.
Health Checks are available at participating GP surgeries for adults aged between 40 and 74 who fit the eligibility criteria.
What does the check involve?
The check will take about 20–30 minutes. Your GP will ask questions, take your blood pressure and measurements, and do a simple blood test. They’ll also offer advice, support or treatment, if your tests suggest you’re at risk of certain diseases.
How is a check arranged?
If you're in the 40-74 age group without a pre-existing condition, you can expect to receive a letter from your GP or local authority inviting you for a free NHS Health Check every five years.
You can also talk to your GP directly to book an NHS Health Check.
